It is with great pleasure that we welcome back our talented students, staff a faculty to LMU for an action-packed Spring Semester 2016.
Last semester, The Loyolan featured us in an article, LMU CURes plants seeds of hope in times of rising environmental concerns. This article details just some of the many ways that CURes seeks to involve the LMU community in its research, community events, professional development workshops and popular internship program.
This semester, we are eager to bring more people into our Center for the “CURes experience” of using our heads, hearts and hands to explore urban ecology in Los Angeles.
We invite you to come hear some of the world’s foremost experts on climate change during the Spring 2016 series in partnership with the Academy for Academy of Catholic Thought and Imagination (ACTI): Laudato Si’ & Climate Change. The impressive speaker roster includes author, filmmaker and activist, Naomi Klein, as well as LMU’s own Dr. Jeremy Pal, a member of the IPCC (Nobel Prize 2007), among others.
We also hope that you will come learn more about our Restorative Justice project, Mediterranean City Climate Change Consortium (MC-4) and professional development trainings for science teachers. Finally, we are delighted to continue offering our internship program for students in partnership with The Bay Foundation. Students have participated in projects ranging from collecting data with the Culver City Rain Garden project to leading research and analysis with our Baldwin Hills Park User Survey.
